Hi,
Just a minor errata in the post above. The belts progress from Yellow, Green, Black and Master Black belts. The difference lies in the roles that you play at various levels for a project. A snapshot of the same is as follows:
1. Yellow Belt : Cursory knowledge of Six Sigma. Can act as team members for a six sigma project.
2. Green Belt: Team leads with a thorough knowledge of statistical and other tools to implement in the project.
3. Black Belts: Overseeing the entire project. These guys are focused more on organization wide deployments.
4. Master Black Belts: These people are the topmost people when it comes to six sigma. They are more into strategic decision making at the organization level. For these decisions, they are assisted with preliminary data analysis by the GBs' and BBs'
Getting a six sigma certification will not only increase your market value but also add a significant skill of statistical data analysis. Going by the current state of quality and the increase in adoption of high maturity practices (especially when it comes to CMMI) a knowledge of statistical techniques becomes absolutey imperative for the quality function.
Do let me know in case you need any more information about six sigma or any other quality management related topics.
