Is control total a part of preventive control or detective control?

Hi,
In CSQA domain 9, control totals are listed under both preventive controls and detective control. But explaination for both of them is same. Can someone explain how is it part of both preventive and detective controls?

"Control Total" is a validation check... So it would be applicable for Preventive check and Detective check...
Are you finding it difficuilt to relate it to both?
